Hawker Hurricane Mk I // DT-A // 257 Sqdn. // December 1940

This Hawker Hurricane was piloted by Squadron Leader Robert Tuck, flying ace with 29 kills claimed. The picture here shows the aircraft refuelling at RAF Coltinshall, where it was based, in the January of 1941 after the Battle of Britain. Painted in the classic Continental camo of the period, it's not a terribly unique looking aircraft but still a beauty nonetheless. 

Arma Hobby's offering is probably the best Hurricane in the scale, not a perfect kit as you'll see but definitely one worth putting the effort in. There's noparticulalry deep reason behind this project, i just wanted a Hurricane in Battle of Britain colors and i had the kit on hand. It's been quite a while since my last (completed) project as is usual with me, but we'll see where it goes. 

Construction begins in the wheel wells. An unfortunate trait of my kit is the tricky fit on most of the larger components, where a combination of mould lines and slightly misalignments in the moulds means that a decent amout of sanding and test-fitting is required for a proper fit. Aside from that, painting is very easily done with Tamiya LP11 and brown enamel wash in this area. 

Holes for the machine guns were drilled fully through for better realism. The fit of the upper and lower wing halves is very good, no filler needed. 

Cockpit dutifuly painted with a combination of Tamiya XF71 and LP11 through the airbrush, and brush painted citadel acrilics for the finer details. The instrument panel decals were tricky, i'd recommend cutting them up into smaller peices, plus the use of a strong solvent to allow them to conform a little better. 

The assembly of the cockpit, fuselage halves and wings is slightly tricky. Especially if the parts are painted the assembly is quite tight, and a decent amount of sanding, shaving and test fitting is needed to make the parts fit correctly. The result is good however, with minimal amounts of filler needed on the wing roots. 

I've made a couple of small improvements: the actuator rod for the radiator air intake with stretched sprue, and a couple of holes i observed on Arma's 48 scale hurricane.
